This Six-Part Pavan and Galliard comes from a collection of pieces published in 1604 by the German composer Valentin Haussman. It is scored for TrTrTTBB viols. It can also be played on any instrument that fits the ranges, ie. 2 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos. The music is of intermediate standard and would suit teaching and workshop use as well as playing for enjoyment.

Mr Young's Delight
solo piece from The Dancing Master, c. 1695,
arranged for treble and bass clef instruments (D major) or alto and octave treble clef instruments (G major). All in first position for strings, and a rollicking little jig for enjoyment or performance. Each part is one page.

Giles Farnaby's Dreame [Pavan]
arranged from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, for four players - treble, 2 alto lines, and bass. Easy piece, in score only. Two versions here: one with alto clefs on the inner lines, the other with octave treble clefs. Suitable for workshops or class use. One page.

Iste Confessor is an Organ Hymn that has been arranged for bass instruments. It can be played on 4 bass viols, or tenor viol with three bass viols or viola and three cellos. The top line is in alto clef. The fourth line is the plainsong (with text) on which the hymn is based. This is the first verset only.

Captain Keeler and Lady Binning come together to dance in bass clef for solo bass recorder or bass viol (or cello or bassoon if you wish). Both in the key of F major. These are indicative of the standard in SM187 which contains the 60 pieces before this from Surenne's 1841 collection Dance Music of Scotland. All ornaments and slurring are from the original.

This little Terzetto is from Fasolo's 1645 collection of organ music, and is in three parts. It's been arranged for treble, tenor and bass viols. It could be played on violin, viola and cello as well or a combination of instruments. It's not difficult.
