Kurschner Strings
Saraband Music sells strings from Bernd Kuerschner Musiksaiten in Germany. A good selection of strings for bowed instruments are always in stock, plus fretgut. Strings for other instruments will be ordered on request.
As more people take up early instruments, there are shortages of raw material which can create delays. Please order early.
Kurschner makes a variety of different types of strings. Plain gut (varnished or unvarnished), Florentine (high twist), Luxline (gut with a copper or silver strand), Catlines, silvered copper on gut, or silver on gut. In addition there are also nlyon and carbon fibre strings plus custom made strings. Modern steel strings are also available on special order.
Saraband can order in any strings which Kurschner makes, but please allow extra time for special orders.

Kurschner makes strings for many different instruments: the violin family, the gamba family, lutes, guitars, theorboes, harp, hurdy-gurdy, oud and many folk instruments. Please ask about strings for these instruments.
A few rosins by Kurschner for viola are in stock. Kurschner has now discontinued the manufacture of rosin, so these are the last ones.

For information on strings for all other instruments, or different string types, please ask for a quote. Particularly for viola and tenor viol players, as well as people with non-standard sized instruments, please measure your instrument carefully before ordering so that the best length of string can be bought.
For custom strings, the info required is:
vibrating string length (nut to bridge), plus overall string length including some for the knot and at least 8cm to wind onto the peg.
